Batiquitos Cardigan

$9.50 (PDF DOWNLOAD)

This pattern is part of VERNAL: Collection of warm weather knitwear book. You can also purchase the book here.

Featuring a stunning yet very simple all-over lace pattern, Batiquitos is a light cardigan that is both breathable and warm – perfect for the changing weather of Spring. An open front with a ribbed edging and collar makes this short sleeve cardigan easy to throw on over any outfit.

The garment is worked flat in one piece from the bottom to the underarms on a circular needle to accommodate a large number of stitches. The stitches for the sleeves are picked up at the underarms and fronts and back are worked separately. Shoulders are joined together with a 3-Needle bind-off.

To make this design as irresistible as it can be, I chose the Miss Babs Kunlun, an opulent blend of Merino, cashmere, and silk. The 3-ply construction makes this yarn plush and round, with a velvety sheen from the silk and wonderful softness from the cashmere.

Notes

• This cardigan is worked flat in one piece from the bottom up to underarms, then fronts and back are worked separately. Shoulders are joined with a 3-Needle Bind Off. Cuffs are picked up and worked circularly.

• Knitters may consider placing stitch markers between chart repeats.

• Slip stitches with yarn in the back.

• When working on ribbed edges, stitches directly next to selvage stitches often look uneven: very tight, and those in the row above them look very loose. This can be prevented with a little bit of practice. In every row, pull the first 3-4 stitches after the selvage stitch tightly and work the last 3-4 stitches in the row more loosely.

• Stitch pattern is charted and has written instructions.
