The main attraction of this modern oversized cardigan lies in its understated box shape, perfect for layering, and back, worked entirely in the lace pattern, reminding me of bunch of butterflies. The smoothness of the stockinette on the fronts and sleeves juxtaposes the intricacy of the lace.

The body of Giesel is knit flat in a single piece. The stitches for the sleeves are picked up along the armhole and worked in the round to the cuff.

Size US 3/3.25 mm: 32”/80 cm circular and set of double-pointed.

(Optional: spare needles of the same size).

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Notions 

Stitch markers, waste yarn, cable needle, tapestry needle, crochet hook E/3.5 mm for Crochet Chain Provisional cast on, 7 buttons 5/8”/16 mm in diameter.

Notes

• This cardigan is worked flat in one piece from the bottom up to underarms, then fronts and back are worked separately. Shoulders are joined together with a 3-Needle Bind Off. Stitches for sleeves are picked up and worked in the round.

• German short-rows are used for sleeve cap and shoulder shaping. Knitters could use any other Short- Row method of their choice.

• Knitters may consider placing stitch markers between chart repeats.

• When choosing the size, take the sleeve circumference into account.
